From the time I was three in 1965 until 1989, Dick Wilson, otherwise known as Mr. Whipple was a staple of TV advertising. He passed away today at the age of 91.
Who could forget a tagline like Please don’t squeeze the Charmin!
I remember going to the supermarket with my mother as a young boy. And even though Mr. Whipple begged us not to, the toilet paper aisle almost always had somebody doing the dirty deed of squeezing the Charmin.
I confess. I did it myself on more than one occassion. I mean let’s face it, who could resist such an irresistable squeeze?
Not me and not now.
But Mr. Whipple is gone and all we have left is our memories…and the occassional clandestine squeeze on aisle 23.
All fun aside, wouldn’t it be something if Jesus seeped into our consciousness like the icons of our culture?
Philippians 3: 12-14, Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
